Spartans split with Tigers and Bolts at Madrid

MAXWELL — The Collins-Maxwell volleyball team suffered its second loss to rival Baxter three days Sept. 19.

The Spartans were swept by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-19 to fall to 7-6 on the season and start off 0-1 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.

Collins-Maxwell struggled with its attack in the loss. The Spartans only had nine kills against 16 errors in 60 attacks.

On defense Collins-Maxwell compiled 29 digs and four blocks. The Spartans had two aces on 42 of 46 serving.

Brailyn Tankersley finished with four kills and two blocks for Collins-Maxwell. Brooke Christie had 12 digs, Elise Robertson eight digs and one kill, Reagan Franzen six digs, three kills and one block, Jillian Holst seven assists, three digs and one ace, Angela Calkins one kill and one ace and Trinity Stover one block for the Spartans.

MADRID — Collins-Maxwell split two matches against Madrid and Baxter at a triangular meet in Madrid Sept. 16.

The Spartans swept Madrid. They dominated the first set, 25-12, then pulled off a 25-23 thriller in the second.

Collins-Maxwell recorded 20 kills against seven attack errors and went 37 of 40 serving with five aces. Brailyn Tankersley had seven kills and one block, Reagan Franzen six kills, four assists and one ace, Elise Robertson three kills and two digs and Trinity Stover three kills, three assists and one block.

Kenzie Wierson added three assists and two aces, Jillian Holst three assists and one ace, Carrie Baldwin one kill and assist apiece and Brooke Christie one assist and ace apiece.

The Spartans fell to Baxter by scores of 25-18 and 25-16. They were limited to eight kills with five attack errors and went 24 of 28 serving with three aces versus the Bolts.

Tankersley had three kills, Franzen two kills, two assists and one block and ace apiece, Christie seven digs and one assist and Angela Calkins, two digs, two aces and one kill against Baxter. Robertson chipped in one kill, dig and block apiece, Stover two digs, one kill, one assist and one block and Wierson three assists.

Collins-Maxwell’s overall record moved to 7-5 at the conclusion of the meet.
