Seven baseball and six softball players from Ames given all-CIML Iowa honors in 2022

Junior shortstop Ellie Lynch hit .523 with 12 doubles, thre triples, four homers, 41 runs, 35 steals and 23 RBIs during the 2022 season to earn unanimous first team all-CIML Iowa honors for the Ames softball team.

The Ames softball team had six all-CIML Iowa selections and the Little Cyclone baseball team seven for the 2022 season.

The Little Cyclone softball team had two unanimous first-team picks in junior shortstop Ellie Lynch and junior center fielder Ireland Buss. Senior pitcher Alexa Kopaska, senior first baseman Olivia Smalley, sophomore catcher Kyra Anderson and sophomore third baseman Katie Riesselman all were named honorable mention.

Lynch hit .523 during the season with 12 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 41 runs, 35 steals and 23 RBIs. Buss posted a .460 average with three doubles, five triples, 12 homers, 49 runs, 29 RBIs and 20 steals.

The other CIML Iowa first team picks were Waukee Northwest's Maddie Oetzmann, Bailie Kroll and Reagan Bartholomew; Fort Dodge's Jalen Adams, Mariah Myers and Tory Benett; Ankeny's Mariah Parton, Larissa Miller and Eva Fulk and Ankeny Centennial's Jordyn Kennedy and Lauren Gustofson. Oetzmann, Kroll, Adams, Myers, Bennett, Kroll and Parton were all unanimous selections.

Kopaska went 15-10 with a 3.37 ERA, 102 strikeouts and 67 walks in 153 2/3 innings at pitcher and Smalley hit .318 with 11 doubles, one triple, 28 runs and 18 RBIs in their final season for Ames. Anderson hit .204 with two homers and 15 RBIs on offense and she threw out 11 runners behind the plate and Riesselman recorded a .308 average with seven doubles, one triple, four homers and 30 RBIs.

Senior outfielder Evan Gray was named to the CIML-Iowa first team in baseball for Ames in 2022. Grey hit .391 with five doubles, five triples, 31 runs, 26 steals and 18 RBIs on the season.

The Ames baseball team also put two players on the first team in sophomore infielder Carter Geffre and senior outfielder Evan Grey, who as a utility pick. The other all-CIML Iowa baseball first-team selections were: Ankeny's Tamden Webb-Tate and Jamison Patton, Ankeny Centennial's Joey Oakie, Nick Severson, Damin Churchman and Cole Grider; Waukee Northwest's Anthony Watts and Ben Burkle, Mason City's Carter Thomas, Marshalltown's Nick Rebick and Fort Dodge's Jace Ulrich.

Watts, Oakie, Webb-Tate and Patton were unanimous selections.

Geffre hit .460 with nine doubles, two triples, six homers, 19 runs and 37 RBIs on the season. Grey posted a .391 average with five doubles, five triples, 31 runs, 26 steals and 18 RBIs.

Senior pitcher Ben Amador made the all-CIML Iowa second team from Ames. Amador went 6-3 with a 1.64 ERA, 62 strikeouts and 11 walks in 51 1/3 inning during the season.

Senior outfielder Griff Linder, senior third baseman Mario Napolitano, junior catcher Aidan Nigh and junior infielder Austin Gabrielson were each named honorable mention for the Little Cyclone baseball team.

Linder hit .326 with five doubles, one home run and 19 runs and RBIs apiece. Napolitano finished with a .248 average, 11 doubles, one home run, 23 runs and 15 RBIs.

Nigh posted a .306 average with four doubles, one triple, five homers, 19 runs, 16 RBIs and 10 runners thrown out from behind the plate. Gabrielson hit .305 with 10 doubles, one triple, 21 runs and 14 RBIs.
