Five Spartans make all-ISC South first team in softball: Alexis Houge is named Player of the Year

Collins-Maxwell senior Alexis Houge was named Player of the Year in the Iowa Star Conference South Division for the second year in a row during the 2022 high school softball season.

Five members of the Collins-Maxwell softball team were named to the all-Iowa Star Conference South Division first team after leading the Spartans to their fifth-consecutive unbeaten conference championship in 2022.

Senior shortstop Alexis Houge, sophomore pitcher Erica Houge, senior first baseman Kenzi Wierson, junior catcher Marissa Boege and senior center fielder Avery Fricke were the five Spartans named to the first team. Alexis Houge was named the South Division Player of the Year and her father Troy Houge Coach of the Year after leading Collins-Maxwell to a perfect 12-0 record in conference play — its fifth unbeaten conference run in as many tries as a program.

Alexis Houge hit .667 on the season with eight doubles, two triples and home runs apiece, 52 runs, 19 RBIs and 50 steals in 52 chances. Erica posted a .447 average with 11 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 53 RBIs at the plate and she went 22-2 with an ERA of 0.20 and 253 strikeouts against 12 walks in 141 1/3 innings.

Wierson hit .377 with three doubles, 16 runs and 11 RBIs. Boege posted a .308 average with two doubles, one triple, two homers, 24 runs and 14 RBIs and Fricke hit .406 with a double, triple, 37 runs, 19 RBIs and 28 steals.

The other South Division first-team selections were Colo-NESCO's Callie Kohlwes and Abigail Hostetler, Baxter's Mandee Selover and Lilie Vansice and GMG's Maecyn Lewis and Adelyn Sienknecht.

Outfielder Cypress Erickson made the South Division second team from Collins-Maxwell. The eighth grader was joined by Baxter's Kinley Bethards, Ally Padget and Lydia Pierce, Colo-NESCO's Izabell Voelker and Jenna Hill, North Tama's Kinsley Even and Larissa Morrison and GMG's Kennedy Sederburg.

Erickson recorded a .362 average with four doubles, 16 runs and 13 steals during the season.

Sophomore third baseman Vivian Kahler was named honorable mention from Collins-Maxwell. Kahler hit .266 with one double, 10 runs and 11 RBIs.
