Ballard's Ella Husak makes all-RRC first team in softball: Four Bombers named all-conference

Ballard's Ella Husak made the all-RRC first team as a junior. The Bomber shortstop hit .505 during the regular season with 40 runs and 25 steals.

Four Ballard softball players were tabbed as all-Raccoon River Conference selections for the 2022 season.

Ella Husak, Maggie Mortensen, Sam Vetter and Brooklyn Baumgardner were the four players chosen after leading Ballard to an 8-8 record in one of the toughest conferences in the entire state. The RRC produced four state qualifiers, including Ballard, and the Class 4A state champions in Winterset.

Ballard infielder Maggie Mortensen (27) was named to the all-RRC second team after hitting .342 with nine doubles, one homer, 31 runs and 20 RBIs during the regular season.

Husak was named to the all-RRC first team. The Bomber shortstop hit .505 during the regular season with six doubles, one triple, 40 runs, 25 steals and 14 RBIs.

The other first-team selections were: Winterset's Jena Young, Thea Banning, Lauren Carter, Riley Kious and Bridget Stover; Adel-Desoto-Minburn's Olivia Tollari, Addison Banse and Aliya Yanga; Carlisle's  Isabelle Noring and Reagan Roling, Bondurant-Farrar's Jackie Bass, Tori Carroll and Katelyn Lappe; North Polk's Ava Husak and Lucy Lucas, Gilbert's Sydney Lynch, Boone's Erin Ades and Carroll's Parker Adams.

Young, Banning, Tollari, Lappe and Ava Husak were all unanimous selections.

Mortensen and Vetter were named to the all-RRC second team. They were joined by: ADM's Tessa Boorn, Maddie James and Cameran Smith, Boone's Natalie Danner, Bondurant-Farrar's Myah Elliott and Lauren Osborn, Carlisle's Logan Brown, Amber Dougherty and Laney Schick, Carroll's Ava Gross, Gilbert's Bella Nelson and Carlee Schwartze, North Polk's Lauren Ausborn and Madilyn Simoens and Winterset's Bailey Acton and Neela Applegate.

Ballard catcher Sam Vetter landed on the all-RRC second team. She hit .398 during the regular season with 10 doubles, one homer, 26 runs and 27 RBIs.

Mortensen hit .342 with nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 31 runs, 20 RBIs and 14 steals. Vetter posted a .398 average with 10 doubles, one triple, one homer, 26 runs and 27 RBIs.

Baumgardner was named all-RRC honorable mention. The Bomber ace went 11-12 with a 3.29 ERA, 90 strikeouts and 26 walks in 129 2/3 innings and she also hit .255 with six doubles, one triple and home run apiece and 14 RBIs during the regular season.

Winterset's Steve Corkrean was named the RRC Coach of the Year after leading the Huskies to a 14-1 conferene record and the 4A state title.
