Eight Spartans make all-ISC South Division in baseball: C-M puts five on the first team

Caleb Dvorak is one of five players from the Collins-Maxwell baseball team named to the all-Iowa Star Conference South Division first team in 2022 after helping the Spartans take second in the conference with an 8-6 record.

Eight members of the Collins-Maxwell baseball team were given All-Iowa Star Conference South Division recognition in 2022.

The Spartans put five players on the first team and two on the second. They also had an individual named honorable mention after placing second to North Tama in the conference with an 8-6 record.

Caleb Dvorak, Blake Huntrods, Josef Dvorak, Caden Hasbrouck and Weston Kahler were the five Collins-Maxwell players named to the South Division first team. They were joined by North Tama's Devin McKinley, Gabe Kopriva, Kolt Knaack and Michael Schreier, Colo-NESCO's Spencer Hansen and Baxter's Cody Damman.

Caleb Dvorak hit .479 with seven doubles, one triple and 16 runs and RBIs apiece in conference play. He also made 21 assists and 14 putouts in the field.

Huntrods hit .408 with a double, 15 runs and six RBIs. He only made three errors in 19 chances defensively.

Josef Dvorak posted a .432 average with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 runs and 12 RBIs. He went error free in 11 chances playing the outfield.

Hasbrouck recorded a .429 average with three doubles and 15 RBIs. He went 2-0 with a 2.74 ERA in 15 1/3 innings on the mound.

Kahler was 2-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 32 1/3 innings at pitcher during conference games. He also hit .325 with four doubles, two triples, 18 runs and seven RBIs.

Luke Huntrods and Jace Huntrods landed on the second team. The other second-team choices in the South Division were Colo-NESCO's Andrew Grover and Drew Banks, North Tama's Logan Rausch, GMG's Colin Teske and Baxter's Nate McMinamen, Cael Shepley and Rory Heer.

Luke Huntrods hit .372 with five doubles, one triple, one homer, 13 runs and 11 RBIs. Behind the plate he threw out four runners and only had two errors in 108 chances.

Jace Huntrods hit .391 with 14 runs and 13 RBIs. He also went without an error in 15 chances defensively and finished 1-2 in 11 1/3 innings on the mound.

Eighth grader Cooper Wierson was the Collins-Maxwell player named honorable mention. Wierson hit .250 with 11 runs and steals apiece.

Kopriva was named the ISC South Division Player of the Year. North Tama head coach Dan Kopriva was named Coach of the Year after leading the Redhawks to the conference title with a 10-3 conference record.
