Three Bombers make all-RRC in volleyball: Ashworth lands on first team

Three members of the Ballard volleyball team were named all-Raccoon River Conference in 2021 by the conference coaches.

Senior outside hitter Ava Ashworth, sophomore middle blocker Brooklyn Baumgardner and junior setter Rylie Askelsen were the three Bombers chosen after Ballard went 3-5 in the conference.

Ashworth was named to the all-RRC first team after making the second team a year ago. She was joined on the 2021 first team by Bondurant-Farrar's Kendall Anderson, Halie Bedier, Tori Carroll and Hannah Ditsworth, North Polk's Tiana Gehling, Kamryn Hilsabeck and Paige Johnson, Adel-Desoto-Minburn's Campbell Jones, Carroll's Josie Ayala and Winterset's Lauren Carter.

Ditsworth, Ayala and Carter were unanimous selections.

Ashworth tallied 103 kills, 82 digs, 19 blocks and 18 aces during 33 sets in conference play.

Baumgardner landed on the second team. The other second-team selections were North Polk's Alex Bingham and Jerica Heintz, Winterset's Thea Banning and Bridget Stover, A-D-M's Marissa Gerleman, Boone's Hannah Chesnut , Carlisle's Reagan Roling, Carroll's Hannah Jorgensen and Gilbert's Abby Greder.

Brooklyn Baumgardner

Baumgardner led Ballard in blocks with 40 in 33 sets against conference competition. She also had 53 kills and 29 digs.

Askelsen was named honorable mention. She dished out 173 assists and also had 68 digs and 20 aces.

Riley Askelsen

Bondurant-Farrar's Ray Sauer was named RRC Coach of the Year after leading the Bluejays to share of the conference championship with North Polk after both teams finished 7-1.
