Ballard goes 3-2 at Indianola, Collins-Maxwell drops two ISC South Division matches

The Ballard volleyball team went 3-2 at the Indianola Invitational in Indianola and Collins-Maxwell finished 0-4 at the Comet Invitational in Conrad Saturday.

Ballard (11-16) defeated Williamsburg twice during the Indianola Invitational.

In pool play the Bombers came back from a 21-15 loss in the opening set to take the second by a 21-12 score and then dominate the rally game by a 15-5 decision. They swept the Raiders in the championship bracket by scores of 25-15 and 25-20.

Ballard was swept by Cedar Rapids Kennedy (22-20, 21-14) and Glenwood (21-19, 21-17) in pool play. 

Collins-Maxwell (2-26) was swept by Baxter (21-13, 21-9), West Marshall (21-5, 21-6), North Tama (21-8, 21-14) and (21-14, 21-11) at Conrad. The Spartans also dropped a five-set battle with Colo-NESCO and fell to GMG in four sets during Iowa Star Conference South Division play.

Collins-Maxwell dropped the first set against Colo-NESCO, 25-21, then won 29-27 and 25-23 thrillers. The Spartans lost the fourth set by a 25-18 margin then dropped a 19-17 barnburner in the rally game.

The Spartans dropped the first two matches against GMG by 25-15 and 25-19 scores, won the third in a 25-22 then suffered another 25-19 setback in set four. The losses to GMG and Colo-NESCO put Collins-Maxwell at 1-5 in the conference.

Thompson, Inglett rise to the occasion

Alliyah Thompson emerged as another quality weapon at the net and Memphis Inglett continued to do well in support of all-conference outside hitter Ava Ashworth.

Thompson recorded 13 kills and five digs during the tournament. Inglett finished with nine kills.

Ashworth continued to set the pace for Ballard with 27 kills, 20 digs and four aces. Brooklyn Baumgardner had 12 kills and nine blocks from her middle blocker position

Askelsen serving strong

Riley Askelsen had nine aces for Ballard during the tournament. She also handed out 46 assists at setter.

Ally Baker chipped in 12 assists. Hailey Battani added 17 digs.

Boege, Bienfang step up for C-M

Marissa Boege handed out 13 assists at the Comet Invitational filling in for Kenzi Wierson.

Tori Bienfang recorded eight kills and Chloe Wierson had five. Bienfang also had 19 digs.

Wierson girls play well in ISC matches

Kenzi Wierson had 22 digs, 12 assists and three aces against Colo-NESCO and 14 digs and five aces versus GMG.  Chloe had 11 kills and nine blocks over the two sets.

Kenzi also recorded five aces and Chloe finished with 11.
