No. 8 Spartans demolish Raiders, Crusaders: C-M takes 10-0 record into holiday break

MAXWELL - The No. 8 (Class 1A) Collins-Maxwell girls’ basketball team wrapped up the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule by crushing Dunkerton, 60-10, Friday.

The Spartans built an insurmountable 40-5 lead by halftime and to put the game away early and take a 10-0 record into the break.

Collins-Maxwell gave up only three field goals all game on defense. Dunkerton hit just 10.7 % of its shots on the night.

Collins-Maxwell also forced 26 turnovers and had a 31-7 rebounding advantage.

Brooke Christie, Erica Houge, Reagan Franzen and Alexis Houge all scored in double figures for the Spartans. Christie netted 16 points, Erica had 14 points and five steals, Franzen posted a triple-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and assists apiece and Alexis tallied 11 points and two steals.

Kenzi Wierson added four points and five rebounds and Chloe Wierson three points and rebounds apiece.

Mallory Tisue led Dunkerton with six points and three rebounds.

CEDAR FALLS - Collins-Maxwell easily disposed of Valley Lutheran, 71-8, Dec. 15 to stay perfect on the season.

The Spartans blew the game open in the first half. They led 20-0 after one quarter and 47-2 at the half.

Collins-Maxwell held Valley Lutheran to 4 of 24 shooting and never put the Crusaders on the foul line. The Spartans forced 26 turnovers and held a gigantic 39-10 rebounding advantage in improving to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.

Reagan Franzen had 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists and steals apiece for Collins-Maxwell in the win. Alexis Houge tacked on 10 points, five steals and four assists and Marissa Boege came off the bench to deliver nine points and three steals.

Chloe Wierson also had a nice game off the bench with eight points, five rebounds and two assists. Brooke Christie hit two 3-pointers and also scored eight points, Erica Houge finished with six points and three rebounds and Kenzi Wierson had three points, four rebounds and three assists and steals apiece.

Isabelle Hill chipped in four points and Avery Fricke and Mary Staudt added three apiece for Collins-Maxwell.

Valley Lutheran fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Taylor Mauser scored four points and pulled down three rebounds for the Crusaders against the Spartans.
