Spartans get first two wins at GMG Invite: C-M drops two at Waterloo Christian triangular

GARWIN - The Collins-Maxwell volleyball team picked up its first two victories of the season at the GMG Invitational Saturday.

The Spartans went 2-1 at the tournament to improve their season record to 2-5. Collins-Maxwell swept Meskwaki by scores of 21-12 and 21-10, lost to Waterloo Christian in straight sets - 21-12 and 21-13 - and defeated GMG in three sets - rallying from a 21-12 loss in the forest set to take the second by a 21-13 margin then dominate the rally game, 15-4.

For the tournament Elise Robertson, Brooke Christie and Reagan Franzen each had 11 kills. Robertson also had 18 digs, seven assists and four blocks; Christie 19 digs and three assists and Franzen 13 digs, five blocks and two assists.

Kenzi Wierson handed out 22 assists and also recorded 14 digs and two kills. Marissa Boege tallied six assists, five digs, four blocks and three kills; Josephine Ross six digs, Payton Steele two kills and Isabelle Hill one block.

Franzen was 21 of 25 with five aces, Ross 19 of 26 with five aces, Robertson 15 of 17 with four aces and Wierson 18 of 22 with three aces as the top servers for Collins-Maxwell. Christie was also 8 of 11 for the Spartans.

WATERLOO - Collins-Maxwell dropped both matches in a triangular meet with Waterloo Christian and Grand View Christian Sept. 10 in Waterloo.

The Spartans fell to Waterloo Christian by scores of 25-14 and 25-12. They only had a 1.7-percent kill efficiency with 14 kills and 13 errors in 60 attacks and they only had two blocks.

Reagan Franzen had seven kills, five digs and one ace; Elise Robertson four kills, eight digs, one assist and one block and Brooke Christie three kills, six digs and three aces for Collins-Maxwell against the Regents. Kenzi Wierson handed out seven assists and added four digs and one ace, Marissa Boege tallied five digs, one assist and one block; Joshlynn Clark three digs and Josephine Ross two digs.

Collins-Maxwell suffered 25-14 and 25-16 setbacks at the hands of Grand View Christian. The Spartans had 14 kills against 18 errors in 83 attacks and were 23 of 30 serving with three aces.

Robertson recorded six kills and Christie and Franzen four apice against the Thunder. Roberson also had 10 digs, three assists and one block; Christie seven digs and one block and Franzen four digs, two blocks and two aces.

Wierson dished out eight assists and chipped in three digs and a block. Boege finished with five digs and Ross one dig and ace apiece.
