Bombers sweep Tigers for first victory: Ballard records 15 aces in RRC opener
HUXLEY - The Ballard volleyball team scored its first victory of the season in impressive fashion Sept. 1 by sweeping Adel-Desoto-Minburn in its Raccoon River Conference opener.
The Bombers whipped the Tigers by scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-15 to go to 1-2 on the season.
Ballard had 21 kills in 61 attacks with an 11.5-percent kill-efficiency rate. The Bombers also had 25 digs at 8.3 per set and recorded a big serving night by going 68 of 73 with 15 aces.
A-D-M was hurt by an inefficient attack. The Tigers only had 10 kills against 20 attack errors.
Ava Ashworth had eight kills and Carley Wilson seven and Brynna Huen and Kylee Van Pelt each dished out seven assists for Ballard in the victory. Ashworth also recorded five digs and one assist, Van Pelt had two kills and three digs and Huen four digs.
Molly Houge finished with 10 digs, Cecilia Christensen tallied two blocks and one kill and dig apiece and Maya Baker two blocks one dig and one assist. Natalie Maher chipped in two kills and one dig and Mya Patterson one kill and block apiece.
Ashworth led Ballard in serving by going 13 of 16 with five aces. Patterson and Huen were both 11 of 11 with three aces, Wilson 14 of 15 with two aces, Van Pelt 16 of 16 with one ace and Christensen 3 of 4 with one ace.
Claire Greenslade had four kills and three blocks for A-D-M in a losing effort.
