Spartans drop first two matches
JEFFERSON — The Collins-Maxwell volleyball team came up short against Greene County and Glidden-Ralston in its first two matches of the season during a triangular meet Aug. 27.
The Spartans fell to Greene County in three sets and they were swept in two by Glidden-Ralston.
Collins-Maxwell dominated its opening set against Greene County, winning by a 25-13 score. The Spartans then dropped a 25-23 heartbreaker, and Greene County kept its edge in the rally game, pulling off a 15-13 thriller to end the match.
Brooke Christie had two kills, five digs and one block and Jillian Holst, Trinity Stover, Reagan Franzen, Brailyn Tankersley and Elise Robertson one kill apiece for the Spartans against Greene County. Holst added four digs, Stover five digs and three aces; Tankersley two blocks; Franzen three digs, two aces and one assist and Robertson 10 digs, two blocks and one ace.
Angela Calkins chipped in nine digs and two aces against the Rams.
Collins-Maxwell suffered 25-19 and 25-13 losses to Glidden-Ralston.
Franzen accounted for four digs, three kills, one block and one assist; Holst four assists, three digs and one block and Tankersley five blocks, two kills and one dig against the Wildcats. Stover delivered three aces, two blocks and one kill; Robertson three digs and one block and Christie two digs and one kill.
