WINTERSET — The Ballard boys’ basketball team couldn’t get past an accurate-shooting Winterset team Friday, suffering a 66-56 setback in its final Raccoon River Conference game.

Ballard played Winterset nearly even for the first three quarters. But Winterset got hot over the final eight minutes, outscoring the Bombers 23-16 to pull away.

Winterset shot 51 percent for the game. The Huskies also took great care of the ball, committing only four turnovers.

The Bombers were hurt by 14 turnovers. The gap in turnovers and Winterset’s good shooting night prevented Ballard from taking advantage of a huge 37-20 rebounding edge.

Connor Drew and Max Olsan both scored 20 points for Ballard. Drew also pulled down nine rebounds and Olsan had six boards.

Isaiah Deason tacked on nine points and five rebounds and Mason Murphy had four points and six assists. With the loss, Ballard finished 7-7 in the RRC and fell to 9-11 overall.

Winterset improved to 9-4 in the conference and 13-6 overall. Easton Darling accounted for 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and Casey Kleemeier added 14 points and four rebounds, assists and steals apiece for the Huskies.
