Explosive offense carries NP past Norwalk, EM
JEWELL — The North Polk baseball team relied on strong pitching to down South Hamilton, 6-1, Friday at Jewell.
Sutton Sears and Colten Parkins combined to hold South Hamilton to just two hits, helping North Polk improve to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
Sears got the win after going six innings and giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Parkins struck out the side in a hitless inning of relief.
Parkins also went 1-for-4 with two RBIs on offense. Payton Johnson was 2-for-4 with three steals, two runs and an RBI; Colby Cupp 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs and an RBI; Mark Cox 2-for-3 with one run and RBI apiece and Jake Johnson 1-for-4 with a run.
Jeff Lamp added a double and Sam Kvidera a single for North Polk.
C.J. Hewitt took the loss for South Hamilton. He gave up three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and walks apiece in four innings.

NORWALK — Big bats carried North Polk to a 12-6 non-conference victory over Norwalk June 7 at Norwalk.
The Comets connected for 19 hits, including two doubles and a triple, earning the non-conference road win. North Polk scored three times apiece in the first and third frames and four times in the fourth to build a 10-1 lead.
Norwalk scored once in the third, once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and twice in the seventh.
Payton Johnson was 3-for-4 with two runs and RBI and a walk; Colten Parkins went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs; Jeff Lamp wound up 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs and Reid Sommers finished 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs for the Comets. Mason Russell was 3-for-5 with two runs; Jake Johnson 2-for-2 with two walks, runs and RBIs apiece and Mark Cox 2-for-5 with a double, one run and an RBI.
Colby Cupp singled, walked and drove in a run and Sam Kvidera also singled once for the Comets. Cupp was the winning pitcher after giving up four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 4 ⅓ innings.
Clark Hood gave up two unearned runs on one hit with five strikeouts and two walks in 2 ⅔ innings of relief for North Polk.
Jake Fees allowed 10 runs — nine earned — on 15 hits with one walk in 3 ⅔ innings as the losing Norwalk pitcher. Caleb Black doubled twice, scored two runs and delivered an RBI for the Warriors on offense.

ALLEMAN — North Polk made it a short night versus East Marshall June 5 at Alleman, jumping all over the Mustangs for a 16-0 victory in four innings.
North Polk put six runs on the board in each of the first two innings and scored four more times in the the third. East Marshall only mustered two hits as the game ended after four frames due to the 15-run rule.
Tyler Sinclair was 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs; Reid Sommers doubled and drove in four runs; Mason Russell finished 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI and Colten Parkins was 2-for-3 with two runs for North Polk. Payton Johnson ended up 1-for-3 with two runs, steals and RBIs apiece; Colby Cupp went 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk, steal and RBI apiece; Jake Johnson walked twice, scored three times and knocked in a run and Jeff Lamp walked once and scored twice.
Sam Kvidera and Mark Cox each drove in a run for North Polk. Joe Husak was the winning Comet pitcher after giving up just two hits with three strikeouts and no walks in four shutout innings.

ALLEMAN — Uncharacteristic mistakes doomed North Polk in a 3-1 loss to Saydel June 4 at Alleman.
The Comets committed four errors and were also hurt by wild pitches, suffering their first Heart of Iowa Conference loss.
Saydel scored twice in the first inning, with the first run coming courtesy of a wild pitch. North Polk pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the third after Colby Cupp singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Colten Parkins.
But Saydel blanked the Comets the rest of the way and added an insurance run in the sixth on a North Polk error.
Jake Johnson threw a strong game in defeat for North Polk. Johnson gave up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks, going all seven innings.
Cupp finished 2-for-4 with a run, Payton Johnson was 2-for-4 with a steal and Mason Russell singled for North Polk on offense. Jeff Lamp walked three times and Johnson and Ryan Fausch each drew one walk.
Maxx Stanton surrendered one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks in 4 ⅔ innings as the winning Saydel pitcher. T.J. Stephenson was 2-for-3 with a run and Garrison 1-for-3 with a run to pace the Eagles on offense.
