Five area players make all-conference in boys’ soccer
North Polk had five players named all-Heart of Iowa Conference and Ballard had four individuals selected to the all-Raccoon River Conference teams in boys’ soccer for 2018.
Seniors Broc Hawkins, Keegan Dorr and Luke Hammond all made the all-HOIC first team for North Polk. The trio helped North Polk turn in a breakthrough season, going from 4-10 a year ago to 12-2 this spring.
Hawkins led North Polk with 17 goals and 11 assists in 14 games. Dorr recorded six goals and four assists and Hammond had two goals and assists apiece.
Senior Hielke Van Oosten and junior Luke McCoy made the all-HOIC second team from North Polk. Van Oosten was a valuable contributor defensively and helping control possession, and McCoy tallied two goals and four assists during the season.
Ballard had one unanimous all-RRC first-team selection in senior Blaine Colman. Senior Perry Kallio made the all-RRC second team from Ballard.
Colman was key to controlling the tempo and strong defense for Ballard. Kallio netted two goals during the season.
Seniors Ben Von Arb and Zach Zeller made all-RRC honorable mention from Ballard. Von Arb put two goals into the net and Zeller totaled 84 saves at keeper.
