Raiders blast Bulldogs to close out regular season

COLLINS - The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter softball team closed out the regular season with a 12-0 dismantling of Ogden in four innings Friday at Collins.

The Raiders - rated No. 13 in Class 3A - scored two runs in the first inning versus Ogden. Katie Camp singled, Payge Jurgens hit an RBI single and Mikayla Eslinger drove Jurgens home with a double.

Mikayla Houge doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jordynn Wesselink for CMB’s lone run in the second inning.

In the the third inning CMB put the game away, thanks to the long ball. The Raiders smacked three home runs in the inning as Jurgens hit a two-run shot, Eslinger followed with a solo homer and Holly Jessen connected for the first round-tripper of her career with a two-run bomb.

In the fourth inning Abbey Kahler hit her second double of the game, Jurgens followed with a single and courtesy runner Abby Husak scored on a throw to first. Hannah Caple singled in Jurgens, Holly Jessen doubled in Gracie Cheville and Wesselink singled in Jessen.

Jurgens and Jessen each recorded three hits, Kahler hit two doubles and Eslinger and Caple each finished with two hits for CMB. Megan Ritter, Camp, Houge and Wesselink all ended up with one hit - making it so each Raider starter tallied a hit on the night.

Kahler was the winning pitcher. She allowed just one hit and had five strikeouts in four innings. The win put CMB at 22-8 on the season.

COLLINS - Collins-Maxwell-Baxter wrapped up the Heart of Iowa Conference championship with a 2-1 home victory over Roland-Story June 29 at Collins.

The Raiders took a 2-0 lead and withstood a sixth-inning Norse run to finish 13-2 in the HOIC.

CMB prevailed despite only recording two hits. Payge Jurgens hit a solo home run and Katie Camp singled for the other Raider base knock.

Megan Ritter drove in a run, Holly Jessen drew a walk and courtesy runner Abby Husak scored once for CMB.

Mikayla Houge pitched a strong game to help CMB overcome its offensive woes. Houge tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts against just two walks, and she only allowed one unearned run in seven innings.

Jenna Clark, Hailey Louw and Sydney Mathis each singled for the only Roland-Story hits off Houge. MaKayla Geise scored the lone Norse run.

Mathis was the losing Norse pitcher. She gave up one earned run with one strikeout and walk apiece in six innings.

COLLINS - Collins-Maxwell-Baxter couldn’t work around a shaky fifth inning in a 5-2 non-conference loss to Colfax-Mingo June 28 at Collins.

The Raiders were in firm control heading into the fifth. They led 2-0 after plating two runs in the first inning.

But in the top of the fifth, Colfax-Mingo put up all five of its runs. Ries Wilson delivered the big blow for the Tigerhawks with a two-run homer.

CMB was unable to counter in its final three at-bats to suffer its eighth loss of the season. The Raiders fell despite outhitting the Tigerhawks, 9-6.

Mikayla Eslinger doubled, tripled, walked once and drove in a run for CMB in the loss. Hannah Caple was 1-for-4 with an RBI, Payge Jurgens went 2-for-4 with a run and Katie Camp, Mikayla Houge, Holly Jessen and Jordynn Wesselink each singled once for the Raiders.

Abby Husak scored a run for CMB. Abbey Kahler drew two walks for the Raiders.

Kahler took the loss. She gave up four runs - three earned - on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in 4 ? innings.

Houge allowed one unearned run on one hit with five strikeouts and no walks in 2 ? innings for the Raiders.

Mackensie Brown was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI and Rhiannon Haley doubled and drove in a run for Colfax-Mingo. Colbee Cunningham got the win for the Tigerhawks as she struck out and walked three batters apiece, allowing two earned runs over seven innings.
