Ballard beats R-S, B-F during week

ADEL — The Ballard softball team suffered a pair of losses to No. 3 Adel-Desoto-Minburn in a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader to close out the regular season Friday at Adel.

The Bombers suffered a 4-2 loss in a make-up game, then fell by a 7-2 score to finish 5-9 in the RRC and going to 17-19 overall.

In the 4-2 loss, the Bombers gave up a run in the first and fourth innings and two in the fifth. Ballard made a strong comeback by blanking the Tigers over the final two innings and putting up two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Bombers could do no more than cut their final deficit in half.

Sydne Struve was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Olivia Hall went 2-for-3 and Skylar Rigby was 1-for-4 with a run for Ballard in the loss. Jenna Moody also scored once and Meredith Ossian was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Hannah Elliott took the loss despite a quality outing on the mound. Elliott gave up four runs - just two earned - on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

Molly Jacobsen allowed two unearned runs on six hits and she had 11 strikeouts against no walks in seven innings to pick up the win for ADM. Jacobsen also homered and drove in three runs on offense.

In the nightcap, Ballard fell behind 4-0 after giving up four runs in the third inning. The Bombers recorded two runs in the top of the fourth, but ADM scored two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to pull away.

Hall was 2-for-3 with a double and a run and Kennedy Newell finished 2-for-4 for Ballard in the 7-2 setback. Meredith Ossian and Katie Sydnes both singled once, Karlee Ahrenholtz walked twice and scored and Skylar Rigby drew one free pass for Ballard.

Elliott was the losing pitcher. She gave up six runs - five earned - with one strikeout and no walks in 4 ? innings. Megan Hadaway allowed one earned run on the mound for the Bombers.

Jacobsen allowed two earned runs with nine strikeouts and three walks in seven innings to pick up another win for ADM. Gabbie Glenn was 2-for-4 with a double, run, steal and RBI and Abbie Hlas was 2-for-4 with a steal and two runs and RBI apiece for the Tigers.

PERRY — Ballard couldn’t muster much on offense in a 9-0 loss to Perry June 30 at Perry.

The Bombers finished with just one hit and two walks off Perry pitcher Emma Olejniczak, suffering the shutout loss. Perry plated four runs in the first inning to take charge, then added five runs over the fourth and fifth innings to pull away.

Sydne Struve singled for Ballard’s only hit of the game. Karlee Ahrenholtz and Sydney Pierson each drew a walk for the Bombers.

Danielle Mallas was the losing Bomber pitcher. She surrendered four runs - two earned - on four hits with one walk in ? of an inning.

Hannah Elliott gave up five unearned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 6 ? innings for the Bombers.

Olejniczak tallied five strikeouts in seven innings for the Bluejays. Johanna Diw went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs and Sidney Vancil was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs to pace Perry on offense.

WINTERSET — Ballard put up a gutsy effort versus No. 1 Winterset June 29 at Winterset, but the Bombers didn’t have the firepower to keep pace with the Huskies in a 7-1 setback.

Ballard finished with five hits to seven for Winterset. But the Bombers only had one extra-base knock to four for the Huskies.

Winterset took a 3-0 lead after one inning. The Huskies increased that advantage to 5-0 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bombers came back with their only run in the top of the fifth. Winterset countered with a run in the bottom of the inning and added another score in the sixth to pull away.

Skylar Rigby was 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI and Katie Sydnes singled and scored for Ballard in the loss. Olivia Hall finished 2-for-3, Rachel Newell doubled and Kennedy Newell drew two walks.

Sophie Stover gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks in four innings to get the victory for Winterset. Alexis Clouse homered and drove in three runs and Macy Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for the Huskies at the plate.

HUXLEY — Ballard held off Roland-Story for a 4-3 non-conference win June 28 at Huxley.

Playing in its final home game of the regular season, Ballard scored once in the first and two times in the third. Roland-Story put up two runs in the top of the third to stay within one run.

Neither team scored in the fourth, then Ballard added a run in the fifth. That proved to be the difference as Roland-Story put up a run in the sixth.

Danielle Mallas got the win for Ballard. She gave up two runs on one hit with one strikeout and walk apiece in 2 ? innings.

Hannah Elliott allowed one run on two hits with no walks in 2 ? innings to pick up the save. Isabell Hobbs gave up three hits and two walks for the Bombers.

Kennedy Newell was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Jenna Moody was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI for Ballard on offense. Sydne Struve singled, walked, scored and drove in a run; Kiersten McKinney was 1-for-1 with a steal and a run and Katie Sydnes went 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI for the Bombers.

Meredith Ossian and Rachel Newell each added one hit for the Bombers. Olivia Hall walked once for Ballard.

Sydney Mathis gave up one earned run with five walks and one strikeout over six innings in taking the loss for Roland-Story. Mathis also went 2-for-3 with a double and a run on offense.

HUXLEY — Ballard picked up a Raccoon River Conference victory June 27 with a 2-1 triumph over Bondurant-Farrar at Huxley.

The Bombers scored one run apiece in the third and fourth innings. They withstood a seventh-inning Bluejay score to hold on for the victory.

Hannah Elliott got the win for Ballard. She went the distance and gave up one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Kennedy Newell hit two doubles and scored a run, Katie Sydnes was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Skylar Rigby knocked in a run for the Bombers. Rachel Newell scored once, Olivia Hall singled and walked, Miranda Noeck and Meredith Ossian each hit one single and Jenna Moody drew a walk for the Bombers.

Hope Holzworth gave up two earned runs with two strikeouts and walks apiece in six innings to take the loss for Bondurant-Farrar. Kenzie Adkins was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Josie Carter doubled and scored for the Bluejays.
