COLLINS - Collins-Maxwell-Baxter avenged an earlier loss to North Polk with a 5-0 triumph over the Comets behind strong pitching from Abbey Kahler June 20 at Collins.

CMB let a 5-1 lead get away in a 6-5 loss to the Comets on June 14 at Alleman. Six days later, Kahler made sure that didn’t happen by tossing a two-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a solo home run by Payge Jurgens. The score remained that way until two innings later, when CMB put four runs on the board to break the game open.

Katie Camp and Kahler hit back-to-back one-out singles and Mikayla Eslinger singled in a run for CMB in the bottom of the sixth. Mikayla Houge then delivered the decisive blow with a two-run triple.

Holly Jessen singled in Houge for the final Raider run in the sixth.

Eslinger finished 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI. Six other Raiders finished with a hit in a well-rounded CMB effort at the plate.

Megan Ritter went 1-for-3 with a steal, Katie Camp was 1-for-3 with a run, Kahler finished 1-for-3 and Jurgens hit a solo home run in three at-bats. Houge was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI and Jessen was 1-for-3 with an RBI single.

Abby Husak also scored a run for CMB.
