Raiders split two at State Center

STATE CENTER - The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter baseball team split two games at the Rose Festival baseball tournament in State Center Saturday.

The Raiders whipped Grundy Center and came up short against West Marshall to move to 8-6 on the season.

CMB pulled off an impressive 15-5 win over Grundy Center in five innings. The Raiders pounded out 15 hits in the victory.

The fourth inning saw CMB deliver the decisive blow to Grundy Center. The game was tied at 5-5 going into the fourth, then CMB ripped off seven runs.

The Raiders followed that huge outburst with three more unanswered runs to end the game early.

Brady Kemp had a huge game with the bat for the Raiders. He went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and four RBI.

Brady Stover was 2-for-2 with a walk, three steals, three runs and two RBI. Nate Bishop ended up a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk, run and three RBI and Creighton Caple finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two steals and two runs.

Brady Ross added a 2-for-4 performance with one run and two RBI. Spencer Gauch had one run, one walk, an RBI, four steals and three runs; Tucker Maxwell was 1-for-2; Brad Ritter walked and scored and Travis Lindemoen crossed the plate once.

Maxwell got the victory after throwing three scoreless innings and giving up two hits and one walk with two strikeouts in three innings. Bryce Bacon gave up four earned runs on five hits with one walk in ? of an inning, Ross allowed one run on one hit with three walks and a strikeout in one inning and Ritter threw ? of a scoreless inning with a walk.

CMB couldn’t find any success offensively in a 5-2 loss to West Marshall. The Raiders finished the game with just three hits - scoring both of their runs in the seventh inning.

Aric Broderick doubled, scored and drove in a run for CMB. Gauch singled and stole a base, Lindemoen singled once; Ritter walked, stole two bases and scored once, Kemp and Caple each walked once and Stover stole one base.

Kemp was the losing pitcher versus West Marshall. He gave up four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 4 ? innings.

Bishop allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in 1 ? innings versus the Trojans.

Cameron Bannister struck out one, walked three and gave up one earned run, going the distance on the mound to get the win for West Marshall. David Disney was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI at the plate for the Trojans.

COLLINS — Two big innings on offense enabled Collins-Maxwell-Baxter to power past Greene County, 13-9, for its third-straight victory Friday in Collins.

The Raiders plated six runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. CMB trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, but thanks to the two explosive innings, the Raiders were up 13-5 by the start of the seventh inning.

Greene County made a nice rally in the seventh, but fell well short. The win put CMB at 7-5, both overall and in the Heart of Iowa Conference.

A 15-hit attack on offense keyed the win for CMB. Brady Stover was 2-for-2 with a walk, home run, two runs and three RBI and Creighton Caple finished 3-for-4 with two runs and RBI apiece to pace the Raiders.

Hunter McWhirter, Brady Kemp and Spencer Gauch collected two hits apiece for CMB. McWhirter also scored twice and drove in three runs, Kemp had one run and two RBI and Gauch contributed one run and two steals.

Brady Ross, Brad Ritter and Aric Broderick were each 1-for-3 on the night for CMB. Ross delivered a walk and two runs, Ritter tallied one walk, run and RBI apiece and Broderick scored once.

Nate Bishop was the winning Raider pitcher. He allowed five runs - four earned - on seven hits with three strikeouts and walks apiece in four innings. Caple threw the other three innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

COLLINS — A strong start keyed a 7-3 Heart of Iowa Conference victory for Collins-Maxwell-Baxter over South Hamilton June 16 in Collins.

The Raiders put up four runs in the first inning and through three frames they led 6-0. South Hamilton came up with three runs in the top of the fourth, but relief pitcher Hunter McWhirter blanked the Hawks the rest of the way to give CMB its second win in succession.

Raider ace Brady Stover got the win on the mound. Stover tossed three scoreless and hitless innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

McWhirter gave up three runs - just one earned - on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work.

Travis Lindemoen was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Spencer Gauch was 1-for-1 with a walk, three runs and an RBI for CMB on offense. Nate Bishop went 2-for-3 with a run, Stover was 1-for-3 with a run and two steals, Tucker Maxwell singled and drove in a run, Creighton Caple and Brady Ross were both 1-for-3 and McWhirter and Brady Kemp each walked once and scored a run.

NEVADA — Collins-Maxwell-Baxter took advantage of control problems from Nevada on the mound to pull off a decisive 12-2 victory over the Cubs in six innings June 15 at Billy Sunday Field in Nevada.

CMB hit Nevada hard from the start. The Raiders were up 4-0 after one inning and through three frames their lead grew to 8-0.

Nevada put up a run in the fourth then each team plated a run in the fifth. CMB ended the game an inning early after scoring three times in the top of the sixth and shutting down the Cubs in the bottom of the inning.

Brady Kemp went 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs and RBI apiece to pace CMB’s nine-hit attack on offense. The Raiders were also helped by 11 walks from Nevada pitchers.

Bryce Bacon went 2-for-3 with a walk; Aric Broderick was 1-for-3 with a run, two walks and a pair of RBI and Spencer Gauch was 1-for-1 with two walks, a steal and two runs for CMB on offense. Brady Stover finished 1-for-5 with a steal, run and RBI; Brad Ritter was 1-for-4 with a walk, double and two RBI; Tucker Maxwell scored a run and Nate Bishop walked three times and drove in two runs.

Brady Ross walked once and crossed the plate three times, and Tucker Maxwell and Travis Lindemoen each scored a run as CMB’s other contributors on offense.

Zach Sharp took the loss for Nevada. He gave up seven earned runs with three strikeouts and walks apiece in 2 ? innings.

Chris Dobernecker was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Cam Shill went 2-for-3 with a run and Drew Hardy doubled and scored for the Cubs at the plate.
