Raiders suffer three HOIC losses

COLLINS — The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter baseball team started slow and never recovered in a 15-2 loss to Gilbert in five innings Monday in Collins.

The Raiders fell behind 4-1 after one inning, and by the end of the fourth, they were trailing 14-2. CMB ended up with only three hits, dropping to 4-4 both overall and in the Heart of Iowa Conference.

Brady Stover singled and scored, Brady Ross and Adam Smith each picked up one single and Travis Lindemoen walked twice and scored one run for CMB. Hunter McWhirter and Tucker Maxwell each drew one walk for the Raiders.

Lindemoen was the losing pitcher. He gave up 13 runs - six earned - on 11 hits with five walks and one strikeout in three innings.

McWhirter allowed two unearned runs on one hit with three strikeouts and walks apiece in two innings.

Skyler Popillion gave up two earned runs on one hit with four strikeouts and walks apiece in three innings to earn the victory for CMB. Nathan Chasey was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and five RBI to pace the Tigers on offense.

COLLINS — Collins-Maxwell-Baxter had no answers for No. 9 Saydel in a 13-0 loss to the Eagles in five innings Friday at Collins.

Saydel jumped all over CMB in the first inning with six runs. The Eagles added two more runs in the second, then turned in their second big outburst with five runs in the third en route to ending the game early due to the 10-run rule.

Brady Stover, Brady Ross, Aric Broderick and Tucker Maxwell each singled once for CMB in defeat. Maxwell gave up six runs - five earned - on three hits with four walks in ? of an inning to take the loss on the mound.

Hunter McWhirter allowed seven runs - just two earned - on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 ? innings for CMB.

Rece Martin struck out six and didn’t walk any in five innings to pick up the win for Saydel. Martin also doubled twice and drove in three runs and Craig Garrison knocked in four runs for the Eagles.

STORY CITY — Collins-Maxwell-Baxter had a rough night against Roland-Story pitcher Zach Shadlow in an 8-1 loss to the Norsemen June 8 at Story City.

Shadlow held CMB to five hits and he struck out 11 batters with one walk. CMB’s only run came in the second inning off a solo home run by Aric Broderick after Roland-Story already had a 3-0 lead.

Hunter McWhirter was 2-for-3 with a steal and Brady Stover and Travis Lindemoen each singled once for CMB. Brady Ross drew a walk for the Raiders.

Creighton Caple gave up four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks in three innings to take the loss for CMB. McWhirter allowed two unearned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks in three innings for the Raiders.

Tyler Hovick went 2-for-4 with two runs and RBI apiece and John Barclay was 3-for-4 with two steals and one run and RBI apiece for Roland-Story.
