Bombers split two at Conrad

CONRAD — The Ballard softball team split games with Denver and South Hamilton at the BCLUW Invitational Monday in Conrad.

The Bombers (2-2) defeated Denver by a 3-2 score in six innings. The Bombers rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth to get the win.

Kennedy Newell was 1-for-3 with a run and a steal, Olivia Hall went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run, Karlee Ahrenholtz singled and drove in a run and Sydne Struve also collected a single for Ballard. Skylar Rigby also drew a walk for the Bombers on offense.

Danielle Mallas was the winning pitcher. She gave up one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks in six innings.

Ballard was handed a 5-1 loss by South Hamilton in six innings. The Bombers jumped out to a 1-0 lead and held it until the fourth inning, when the Hawks plated two runs and followed that up with a three-run fifth to pull away.

Meredith Ossian smacked two triples, Newell was 2-for-3 with a run and Jenna Moody went 2-for-3 with a double for Ballard in the loss. Ahrenholtz added a single and Hall drove in a run for the Bombers.

Hannah Elliott took the loss. She gave up two runs - one earned - on six hits with one strikeout and no walks in four innings.

Mallas allowed three runs - two earned - on three hits with two walks in one inning of work against South Hamilton.

Taylor Volkmann struck out six and didn’t allow a walk, going the full six innings to get the win for South Hamilton. Katie Johnson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBI for the Hawks on offense.
