No. 7 Comet girls go to 14-2

ALLEMAN - The No. 7 North Polk girls’ soccer team scored its second 10-goal victory in a row with a 10-0 shutout of Prairie City-Monroe Friday at Alleman.

The Comets fired off an impressive 24 shots on goal. The defense was also outstanding in delivering its 11th shutout of the season as North Polk improved to 14-2 overall.

Joy Smith and Courtney Bonewitz each had a monster game individually for North Polk in the win. Smith had four goals and two assists and Bonewitz delivered three goals and four assists.

Hanna Becker added one goal and two assists and Katie Berglund chipped in one goal and assist apiece. Cheyanne Chelsey also scored a goal for North Polk.

Riley Murphy and Synee Wrage each chipped in an assist for the Comets.

ALLEMAN - North Polk blanked its second 3A foe in a row May 19 with a 10-0 drubbing of Des Moines North at Alleman.

Two days after a 2-0 win over Des Moines East the Comets - rated No. 7 in 1A - annhiliated North for their 13th victory of the season. North Polk got off 22 shots on goal in limited action before the game was called due to the 10-goal mercy rule.

Hanna Becker and Joy Smith each had two goals for North Polk in the win. Syndee Wrage tallied one goal and one assist and Courtney Bonewitz handed out three assists.

Danielle Bonewitz, Alexandria Dvorak, Katryn Halterman, Abbey Hoskins and Ali Teig each added one goal for the Comets. Riley Murphy handed out two assists.

ALLEMAN - North Polk downed 3A school Des Moines East in a 2-0 battle May 17 at Alleman.

The Comets held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal during the close contest. Joy Smith scored one goal and assisted on a goal from Hanna Becker to account for all the scoring.

Smith finished with four shots on goal. Becker, Katie Berglund and Courtney Bonewitz each had one.

Kylie Hanna and Megan Harris each had two shots on goal and Alyssa Ayersman added one for East. Comet keeper Sawyer Elwell and the North Polk defense turned away each East attempt to earn the team’s ninth shutout of the season.
