Ballard’s Echer finishes sixth at 4A regional meet

NEWTON - The Ballard girls’ golf team came close to having an individual advance to state after placing seventh as a team at the Class 4A regional meet in Newton Monday.

Ballard’s Alle Echer fell four strokes shy of the final individual state qualifying score. Echer shot a 94 over 18 holes, with nine-hole rounds of 48 and 46.

Newton’s Jessica Reynolds carded a 90 as the final individual qualifier from the meet. Fairfield’s Lindsey Repp was the medalist with a 78, Pella’s Camille Henry was medalist runner-up with an 84, Fairfield’s Olivia Hammell took third with an 89 and Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s Lindsey Lange also shot an 89 to place fourth.

As a team, Ballard placed seventh out of 12 schools with a score of 451. Lauren Smith shot two rounds of 55 to finish with a 110 as the No. 2 golfer for Ballard at the meet.

Madison Knutson finished with a 123 with rounds of 62 and 61 and Abby Vincent carded a 124 with rounds of 61 and 63 to turn in the other counted scores for Ballard. Kaylee Klunder also carded a 124 with rounds of 59 and 65 and Afton Stark shot rounds of 63 and 62 to deliver a 125 for the Bombers.

Fairfield won the regional championship at Newton with a 363. Pella was the other team to qualify for state with a runner-up score of 384.
