Comet girls place sixth at regional first round meet

ATLANTIC — The North Polk girls’ golf team took sixth at the Class 3A girls’ first round regional meet Monday at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

The Comets shot a 453 over 18 holes to come in nine strokes behind Clarke’s fifth-place score of 44. Atlantic and Shenandoah were the two teams to advance to the regional second round with respective scores of 339 and 396; Chariton placed third with a 404 and Clarinda shot a 411 to take fourth.

Rachel Scott turned in the top score for the North Polk girls with a 105. Scott was consistent throughout the meet, shooting a 53 on the front nine and 52 on the back.

Grace Bowker finished close behind Scott with a 108 and Katie Scott carded a 111 as the third golfer for North Polk. Bowker turned in rounds of 51 and 57 and Katie delivered a 56 on the front and a 55 on the back.

Elly Parker and Maddie Veber tied for the final counted score for North Polk. They each shot a 129, with Parker scoring rounds of 66 and 63 and Veber putting up a 64 and 65.

Nora Aschoff was North Polk’s other varsity competitor. She shot a 143 with rounds of 68 and 75.

Atlantic’s Brooke Newell blew away the field with a 71 to earn medalist honors. Erin Olsen, a teammate of Newell’s, and Clarinda’s Grace Davidson came in medalist runners-up after each shot an 85.
