HUXLEY — Ballard is taking full advantage of the more favorable portion of its schedule as the Bombers reeled off their fourth win in a row with a 6-0 shutout of Carroll Tuesday at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley.

The Bombers (8-6) have defeated North Polk, Nodaway Valley, Boone and Carroll by a combined score of 24-4 since back-to-back losses to Perry and Dallas Center-Grimes on May 3 and 7 respectively.

Ballard head coach Marcello Irvin acknowledged that his team’s schedule has been softer during the win streak. But he credited his players with still being able to maintain their focus and take care of business.

The winning streak has also given Irvin the opportunity to get more bodies on the field.

“I feel that winning is important, but development even more so because if I worry about the 11 players on the field and then worry about next year next year, it really doesn’t help us any,” Irvin. “As much as we want to win, we’ve got to make sure that we put away games earlier so that we can try and develop our kids now for the future.”

It didn’t take long for Ballard to put Carroll away Tuesday.

Wade Stocksleger scored off an assist from Charlie Rietz eight minutes, 10 seconds into the game for Ballard’s first score. By halftime, the Bombers were up 3-0 as Rietz scored on a header off a ball from Will Stolte and Connor Van Maaren added an unassisted goal with 10 minutes left in the first half.

It took just 35 seconds for Ballard to score its first goal of the second half. Stocksleger put up his second goal off a ball from Rietz.

“I couldn’t have done it without Charlie sending me the first one and him crossing it to me on the second one and Stolte sending it to Charlie on that second one,” Stocksleger said of his two-goal night. “I (also) couldn’t have done it without the defense and the midfield. John (Fulk) back there keeping them out (at keeper). Everybody contributed.”

Van Maaren also finished with two goals as he dribbled in and scored at the the 57:34 mark. Perry Kallio netted the final Bomber goal with a little under three minutes left in regulation.
