NP girls place second at HOIC meet

GILBERT — North Polk claimed second in the team standings and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter produced six top-three medals in the girls’ competition at the Heart of Iowa Conference track meet May 3 at Gilbert.

North Polk finished with 124.5 points to outdistance Prairie City-Monroe (107) and CMB (101) for runner-up behind Gilbert’s 150.5 points. The Comets won one event and picked up eight silver medals on the evening.

In the 400-meter dash Maria Gorham and Sierra Lambert took first and second respectively for North Polk. Gorham clocked in at one minute, 0.28 seconds to win the race and Lambert was next in line with a time of 1:02.73.

Amelia Lesher and Sophie Blanchard completed the 1,500 in 5:05.55 and 5:24.71 to place second and third respectively for North Polk. Gilbert’s Carly Rahn won the 1,500 in 4:57.17.

In the 800 Lesher clocked in at 2:25.22 to come in second. Gilbert’s Maggie Pollard just edged Lesher out for the gold with a time of 2:24.81.

Emily Patterson was runner-up in the 1,500 with a time of 11:38.35. Gilbert’s Annie Pollard won in 11:26.33.

Kennedy Wendel, Blanchard, Kayla Williams and Taylor Albaugh completed the 4 X 800 in 10:43.28 to trail only Gilbert’s time of 10:24.31. Maggie Potter, Carolyn Steffen, Rosa Camacho and Gorham teamed to run a 1:57.38 in the sprint medley to come in behind Nevada’s 1:54.81.

Gorham took second in both the high jump and 200 for North Polk. She cleared 5-2 in the high jump and completed the 200 in :27.61.

Rebecca Rimathe, Julia Rothfus, Steffen and Lesher teamed to take third in the distance medley with a time of 4:43.15. Becca Ley was third in the 100 hurdles with a time of :16.89.

CMB earned one gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the meet.

Toni Spencer accounted for both the gold and silver medals won by CMB.

Spencer won the long jump with a jump of 16-4.25. PCM’s Ashley VanGorp was a close second with a jump of 16-2.5.

In the 100 Spencer took second with a time of :13.26. Greene County’s Megan Durbin just edged her out for the gold with a time of :13.20.

Sailor Hinegardner won an individual bronze and also anchored CMB to a third-place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay.

Hinegardner jumped 15-11.75 in the long jump to come in behind Spencer and VanGorp. She was joined by Mary Schabilion, Gracie Cheville and Sydney Ziesman in running a 1:14.53 in the shuttle hurdle to trail only Saydel’s 1:13.42 and Gilbert’s 1:14.01.

Payge Jurgens took third in the shot put for CMB with a throw of 36-11. Gilbert’s Mia Davis won with a throw of 42-3 and Nevada’s Lexy Koudelka took second with a toss of 37-1.

Megan Ritter, Mikayla Eslinger, Josie Wierson and Brianda Bane gave CMB a bronze in the 4 X 200. The Raider team completed the race in 1:57.70.
