Comet boys place eighth at HOIC meet

POLK CITY — The North Polk boys’ golf team came in eighth and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter placed ninth at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet May 3 at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.

North Polk shot a 380 over 18 holes to come in 21 strokes behind Greene County’s seventh-place score. Gilbert won with a 304 and Nevada was a close second with a 312.

Trey Mason was the lead golfer for North Polk. Mason shot an 86 with rounds of 42 and 44.

Nathan Parker and Brandon Annear also shot under 100 for North Polk. Parker had rounds of 41 and 50 to card a 91 and Annear shot a 97 with nine-hole rounds of 46 and 51.

Josh Obernolte turned in the last counted score for North Polk with a 106. Obernolte shot a 52 on the front and 54 down the backstretch.

Keaton Kirby and Nick Dirksen also golfed for North Polk at the meet. The both shot a 116 after turning in identical nine-hole scores of 58 on each round.

CMB finished with a team score of 438. The Raiders had one golfer shoot under 100 and another just miss the mark.

Caleb Van Zante led CMB with a 91. He shot a 46 on the front and a 45 down the backstretch.

Ricky White carded a 101 for the Raiders. He shot a 51 on the front and shaved one stroke off that score down the backstretch.

Nate Bishop shot a 124 and Austin Good a 132 as the other golfers competing for CMB.

Gilbert’s Nate Jensen was the meet medalist with a one-under par score of 70. The Tigers’ Tommy Doyle was medalist runner-up with a 73.
