Bombers top Mustangs at Huxley

HUXLEY — The Ballard girls’ soccer team pulled off a 5-2 home victory over Prairie City-Monroe on a rainy evening in Huxley Monday.

The Bombers received goals from four different players, improving to 6-2 on the season.

Rachel Watters led Ballard with two goals on offense. Steph Knittel, Delaney McCormick and Cassie Smith scored one goal apiece for the Bombers.

Jill Vanersvelde chipped in one assist for Ballard. Keeper Sierra Knight gave up one goal and made seven saves in 58 minutes; Smith allowed one goal with five saves in 22 minutes at goalie for Ballard.

TAMA — Ballard proved to have too much firepower for South Tama in a 10-0 victory over the Trojans Saturday at Tama.

Steph Knittel and Rachel Watters each delivered a hat-trick for Ballard in the win. Knittel and Watters each tallied three goals and one assist apiece.

Cassie Smith came through with two goals and three assists for Ballard in the win. Jennie Huxford and Jill Vanersvelde both chipped in one goal and Delaney McCormick dished out one assist for Ballard.

Sierra Knight made four saves at keeper to help Ballard pick up its third shutout victory of the season.

PERRY — Ballard was dealt its second loss of the season May 3 with a 5-4 road loss at Perry.

The Bombers got off 14 shots on goal to Perry’s 13, but were just a tad less accurate, falling to 4-2 on the season. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak after a season-opening loss to Newton.

Rachel Watters scored twice and Jill Vanersvelde scored once for Ballard in the loss. Sierra Knight made nine saves at keeper.

Natalie Martinez put up three goals and Grace Marburger scored two times for Perry. Perry keeper Carly Anderson ended up with nine saves.
