Bomber girls suffer first loss
BOONE — The Ballard girls’ tennis team suffered its first setback of the season with an 8-3 loss at Boone May 5.
The Bombers picked up two victories in singles play and one in doubles competition to fall to 9-1 on the season.
In singles play, Olivia Astarita scored 7-5 and 6-0 victories over Boone’s Morganne Borsh in the No. 3 match. Bry Ronca won the No. 6 match over the Toreadors’ Joey Cornelis, 7-6 and 6-4.
Emily Jurgensen and Nicole Kling gave Ballard a victory in the No. 2 doubles match. They defeated Boone’s team of Breanna Sterenberg and Cornelis in a thriller, winning the first set by a 6-2 score, losing the second in a 6-4 battle and then pulling off the super-tiebreaker in a 10-8 battle.
