Ballard boys fall to DCG Saturday

HUXLEY — The Ballard boys’ soccer team suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of Dallas Center-Grimes Saturday in Huxley.

The Bombers suffered their second consecutive loss, falling to 4-6 on the season. Wade Stocksleger and Connor Van Maaren each scored once to account for Ballard’s offense in the loss.

Keeper John Fulk made 15 saves in a losing effort. Dowool Kim scored twice and Sam Glasgow, Gavin Hawthorne and Alex Thompson each found the back of the net once for DCG.

HUXLEY — Ballard saw a two-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to Perry May 3 in Huxley.

The Bombers received 15 saves from John Fulk at keeper and Connor Van Maaren scored both goals for Ballard. The loss put Ballard at 4-5 on the season.

Ivan Garcia scored twice and David Cardenas added one score for Perry. Cristian Guardado chipped in one assist for the Bluejays.

ANKENY — Ballard turned in a dominant performance against Ankeny Christian Academy April 28 at Ankeny as the Bombers produced a 6-0 shutout.

Wade Stocksleger scored twice and Calvin Jones, Charlie Rietz, Connor Van Maaren and Luke Vespestad each found the back of the net once, helping Ballard win its second in a row to improve to 4-5.

John Fulk and Keigan Reynolds both played 40 minutes at keeper to help Ballard get its first shutout victory of the season.

CARLISLE — Ballard pulled off a 2-1 road victory over Carlisle in overtime April 25 at Carlisle.

The Bombers received one goal apiece from Wade Stocksleger and Connor Van Maaren to earn their third victory of the season. John Fulk played well at keeper in only giving up one goal in 85 minutes.

Brad Thorpe scored the only goal of the game for Carlisle. Connor Hage made 10 saves for the Wildcats.
