Bomber boys place third at Newton

CARLISLE — The Ballard boys’ track team won one event and picked up three bronze medals at the Wildcat Relays April 26 at Carlisle.

The Bombers claimed the distance medley relay championship and took third in the long jump, high jump and shuttle hurdle relay. As a team, Ballard scored 56 points to place fifth out of 14 teams.

Hunter Wright, Noah Rosing, Kaleb Odden and Max Stoltz formed a winning relay team for Ballard in the distance medley. The Bomber quartet completed the race in three minutes, 50.01 seconds to just edge out Winterset’s 3:50.59 showing for the victory.

Ballard’s shuttle hurdle team of Isaac Schafbuch, Kobe Schulze, Taylor Roberts and Sam Upah picked up a bronze medal. The Bomber team clocked in at 1:03.56 to come in behind Carlisle’s winning time of :59.55 and just a hair in back of Oskaloosa’s runner-up time of 1:03.02.

Roberts also won an individual bronze in the high jump. He tied for third with a jump of five feet, 10 inches.

Noah Rosing took third for Ballard in the long jump. His best jump of 20-1 topped everyone except Carlisle’s Max Goodhue (20-8.5) and Winterset’s Kaden Shaw (20-3.5).

Upah added a fourth-place finish for Ballard in the 110 high hurdles. He crossed the finish line in :16.24.

Rosing came in fifth in the 100 with a time of :11.73, Odden took fifth in the open 400 with a :52.98 showing and Bryce Snell finished fifth in the 800 with a 2:12.66 effort. Wright was sixth in the 100 with a time of :11.75.

Ballard’s 4 X 400 relay team of Roberts, Justus Mai, Schulze and Rosing took fifth in 3:40.93. Marcus Chieves, Skyler Noftsger, Schulze and Wright teamed to place sixth in the 4 X 200 with a 1:36.37 showing.

Carlisle won the team championship with 128 points. Indianola was a close second with a score of 126.5.

NEWTON —Ballard turned in 15 top-six performances to place third at the Cardinal Coed Invitational April 21 at Newton.

The Bombers picked up one gold and silver medal apiece, plus three bronze medals, scoring 85.5 points. Ames split into two teams to take the top two spots as the Ames Black team scored 156 points and Ames Orange finished with 140.

Hunter Wright, Noah Rosing, Kaleb Odden and Max Stoltz won the distance medley relay for Ballard with a time of three minutes, 52.38 seconds. Marshalltown came in second with a time of 3:55.06.

Kegan Odden took second in the high jump for Ballard after clearing five feet, four inches. Taylor Roberts attempted 5-4 and finished fourth for the Bombers.

Noah Rosing and Skyler Noftsger were third and fourth respectively in the long jump for Ballard. Rosing peaked with a jump of 19-0 and Noftsger was right behind after jumping 18-11.

Kaleb Odden won a bronze in the open 400. He crossed the finish line in :52.63 to come in behind the :52.30 run by Lee Grim of the Ames Black team and the :52.59 effort from Newton’s Brennen Dodd.

Ballard earned one bronze in a relay event. Isaac Scafbuch, Kobe Schulze, Roberts and Sam Upah clocked in at 1:06.33 in the shuttle hurdle.

Ballard placed fourth in the 4 X 800 and 4 X 200 relays.

In the 4 X 800 Bryce Snell, Kegan Odden, Ian Fletcher and Max Stoltz finished in 9:00.10. Marcus Chieves, Skyler Noftsger, Kobe Schulze and Hunter Wright ran the 4 X 200 in 1:38.50.

Snell took fourth in the 800 individually with a time of 2:13.97. Upah clocked in at 16:88 in the 110 high hurdles to place fourth and Rosing came in fifth in the 100 with a time of :11.56.

Fletcher added a sixth-place time of 5:15.56 in the 1,600 and Schafbuch finished sixth in the 400 low hurdles with a time of 1:00.98. In the 4 X 100 Wright, Rosing, Noftsger and Upah placed sixth with a time of :47.03.
