Four Bombers gain all-RRC recognition
Four members of the Ballard baseball team were given all-Raccoon River Conference recognition in 2015 after helping the Bombers improve their conference mark from a year ago.
Ballard went from 4-10 in the conference last year to 5-9 in 2015. As a result the Bombers put two players on the all-RRC second team and two more made honorable mention.
Senior Nathan Carlin and junior Kai Reinertson were the two Bombers chosen to the all-RRC second team. The rest of the second team is comprised of Bondurant-Farrar junior Peyton Duit; Carroll seniors Mason White and Cooper LaRue; Winterset senior Colten Patterson and junior Parker Klimesh; Adel-Desoto-Minburn seniors Logan Lemke and Colin Gavin; Boone senior Ty Newbold and junior Storm Wagner and Carlisle freshman Nate Mortimer.
Carlin hit .415 with a .500 on-base average, .439 slugging average, one double, seven runs and four steals in conference play. He had a 3.15 earned-run average in 6 ? innings on the mound and had 25 assists, 19 putouts and only one error in the field.
Reinertson went 2-2 with a 3.59 ERA, 22 strikeouts and 11 walks in 27 ? innings during conference play. He also tallied six assists and putouts apiece on defense.
Senior Marcus Johnson and sophomore Austin Edwards were the two Bomber players named all-RRC honorable mention.
Johnson hit .294 with a .442 OBA, two doubles, one triple and four RBI in RRC games. Behind the plate he made 62 putouts and 10 assists and also threw out four base runners with only two errors.
Edwards hit .250 in RRC play with one double and five runs. He was 1-0 with a 4.77 ERA in 7 ? innings on the mound and also made 72 putouts, four assists and only one error, playing primarily at first base on defense.
The all-RRC first team comprised of: Perry senior Will Whiton; Bondurant-Farrar seniors Hunter McIntosh and Carter Brandt and junior Jarrid Clark; Carlisle juniors Peyton Stephens, Jordan Pierce, Tryston Durham and Max McCay; Winterset senior Cullen Donohoe and junior Colby Van Pelt, Boone junior Jackson Hull and Carroll senior Peyton Renning.
Carlisle head coach Blake Heitmeier was named RRC Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to the conference championship with a 12-2 record.
