Raiders top Madrid at home

BAXTER - The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter volleyball team was no match for a Nevada squad ranked No. 5 in Class 3A during its Heart of Iowa Conference matchup with the Cubs Sept. 16 in Baxter.

The Raiders were swept by scores of 25-12, 25-9 and 25-7 to fall to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the HOIC. CMB only had 12 kills against 10 errors in 49 attacks and they didn’t pick up an ace in 27 serves against the Cubs

Payge Jurgens finished with five kills and one block, Alex Hlavacek produced three kills and one dig, Abbey Appelgate had two kills and six digs and Bridge Hurley finished with two kills and one dig for CMB in the loss. Mackenzie Schmitz contributed 10 assists and five digs, Toni Spencer had nine digs and Maddy Poage went 5 of 5 serving for the Raiders.

MAXWELL - Collins-Maxwell-Baxter started strong and never let up, pulling off a non-conference victory over Madrid Sept. 15 in Maxwell.

The Raiders swept the Tigers for their second victory of the season. They won the opener by a 25-20 score, cruised to a 25-17 victory in the second set and then completed the sweep with a 25-19 triumph in the third set.

CMB had 29 kills and 18 errors in 93 attacks for a .118 kill-efficiency rate. They had a strong serving night, racking up 16 aces on a 65 of 74 performance.

Payge Jurgens had 12 kills and one blocks to lead CMB at the net. Bridget Hurley finished with seven kills and digs apiece along with one ace, Abbey Appelgate had four kills along with 14 digs and three aces and Alex Hlavacek tallied eight digs, three kills, two assists and four aces.

Mikayla Eslinger also chipped in three kills for CMB. Toni Spencer had seven digs and Maddy Poage totaled four. Poage went 18 of 20 serving with four aces.

Mackenzie Schmitz handed out 21 assists and she was also a perfect 16 of 16 serving with three aces.
