Emily Larson, a senior at North Polk High School, was recently named a semifinalist in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship competition. Based on Larson’s strong performance on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) test, she was selected as one of the highest scoring entrants in Iowa and recognized nationally with other state leaders. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, this puts Larson and others semifinalists in the top one percent of our nation’s high school seniors.
Larson, who also takes advanced placement courses at Central Academy, was recently recognized with eight other semi-finalists by Des Moines Public Schools.
Erick Schrier, a health services administration major from Polk City, has been named to the Upper Iowa University dean’s list for the summer 2017 session. To be honored, the student must have earned a minimum 3.50 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student.
