Indian cultural group hosts mentalist Mohit Rao in free event Saturday
Mentalist Mohit Rao of India will be in Ames at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to perform his feats of mindreading and hypnosis in a free event hosted by the Indian Cultural Association of Central Iowa at Ames City Auditorium.
Some of Rao’s claims to fame include his accurate prediction of the closing of the BSE SENSEX, an index on the Bombay Stock Exchange. He has hypnotized more than 25,000 people worldwide, he said on his website, mohitrao.com.
Offering this free event to area residents is part of ICA’s mission to bridge cultures and build community, ICA executive board member Shilpa Saini said.
"Mohit approached us about coming here, and I did some research about him and found out he's a great mind reader, which we call mentalists here," she said. "He's amazing so we thought we should bring him here so everyone can enjoy watching his show."
Supported in part by the city of Ames Commission on the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, the ICA hosts cultural events throughout the year, such as Talent Nite, which was held April 2. The celebration of Indian culture featured a fashion show, dancing and musical performances.
“ICA aims to assist and promote educational, youth, literary, charitable and cultural activities with the intent to maintain, preserve and foster the cultural and secular heritage of India,” Shilpa said, “and also to enhance friendship and understanding with people from various cultural backgrounds.”
