A boutique-style holiday market will be held at Snus Hill Winery near Madrid this weekend, and organizers Jessicca Lenehan and Megan Ulrich are promoting it as “no booths, plenty of wine.”

The market will feature a ticketed VIP event Saturday from 5-8 p.m., and admission will be free on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It’s the first indoor event Locally Grown Showcase, the market owned by Lenehan and Ulrich, has had since its 2019 holiday market, they said.

“This one is a little bit different than our summer and fall outdoor markets,” Ulrich told the Ames Tribune. “Since it's inside, we have a limited number of vendors, so we do it in this boutique format instead of having individual booths.”

With a boutique-style set-up, Locally Grown Showcase is holding its Holiday Market at Snus Hill Winery near Madrid on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday VIP night is a ticketed event giving shoppers a preview of Sunday's free-admission market.

The boutique style is how Locally Grown started, she said, but due to COVID-19 it hasn’t offered an inside show in the past two years.

Rather than having vendors set up with individual booths, Lenehan and Ulrich set up all the vendors’ merchandise like it’s in a store.

“It’s going to look like you walked into a boutique shop, with everything displayed together in a real holiday feel,” Ulrich said. “It ends up being a really cool effect.”

Vendors will have their own checkout areas, so shoppers will still be able to interact one-on-one with the various makers and business owners.

“It’s a fun show for us to do, too, as vendors, because we can socialize with each other and have some fun there too," Ulrich said.

“It’s a great way to no-pressure shop because we can display complementary products together. Sometimes there can be a little awkwardness when you go to someone’s booth. It’s just a more relaxed shopping event that feels more like you’re out and about with your girlfriends.”

Lenehan and Ulrich call their Saturday night event their VIP pre-show party.

Gilmore Garden Center is one of the vendors featured in Locally Grown Showcase's holiday market at Snus Hill Winery Saturday night and Sunday.

Tickets are available online for $15 from the Facebook event page or at the door for $25. At the VIP event, there will be drink specials, giveaways, and each ticketed person gets a free grazing cup from Sisters in Cheese.

“The biggest thing, though, is the first dibs on the shopping,” Ulrich said. “We used to only do the Sunday show, but then our crowds started getting kind of big.

“We thought we’d do this preview show the night before so that people who are avid shoppers can get first dibs on all the goodies.”

There will be 18 vendors, including food vendors like Sisters in Cheese, Red Rooster Ray’s and Vintage Road Coffee Co. Snus Hill’s wines will also be available for purchase, by the glass or the bottle.
