Slater: A Town Divided
A large number turned out for the Third Annual Slater Town Divided Tailgate Friday night. Many of the children participated in the Kid’s Parade down Main Street, showing off their Iowa and Iowa State decorated bikes and clothing.
The Slater Public Library Director and staff raised some money to help with the building of the new Slater Public Library by holding a Carnival at the tailgate.
Tug of War Slater style — while Hawkeye fans rode on the hay rack, Cyclone fans pulled them through Main Street.
The Slater Community Club sold t-shirts for the tailgate in both Iowa and ISU colors, with sayings on the front that read “Town Divided Tailgate” and on the back either BEAT IOWA or BEAT STATE. It seemed like there were more cardinal and gold than black and gold.
Sometimes when riding your bike it is hard to see when your bike helmet slides down and covers your eyes. That didn’t stop this young bike rider.
Who’s in Jail? For a fee, you could have someone put in the Slater Jail, and for a fee, you could buy your way out and put someone else in jail. It looks like a gorilla in jail and those looking on agreed. The fundraiser was to help finance the new Slater Community Building and Library.
Children taking part in the Kid’s Parade lined up on the west end of Main Street, with wheels under them and helmets on top of them.
