Singer from The Voice to appear at Crossroads

A musician who gained fame as a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” will be performing at Crossroads Tavern in Kelley on Saturday, July 23, from 3-10 p.m. Vocalist and guitarist Jared Blake and his band will also take part in a charity motorcycle ride that day.

Blake was raised in the small town of Star City, Ark., and he always dreamed of performing on the big stage. In 2011, Blake got his wish when he appeared on “The Voice” and entertained its 14 million television viewers. He often played his acoustic guitar, and one of his most notable performances was when he sang “Not Ready to Make Nice,” a song made famous by the Dixie Chicks. He also performed the rock song “Use Somebody” by the Kings of Leon.

His songs have appeared on the music charts 56 times worldwide, and have gone as high as No. 16 on the iTunes chart. Blake has performed at Daytona Bike Week and at Sturgis.

He said his influences include Johnny Cash, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, Kid Rock, Eminem, Willie Nelson, George Strait and Waylon Jennings.

Bikers are invited to come ride with Blake and his band on the Crossroads Rock & Ride Concert Tour. The event is sponsored by Zylstra Harley-Davidson of Ames and the Sleeping Angels charity. The ride will end with a concert and barbecue.

It is a free event and is open to the public; it will be held rain or shine. Free-will donations will benefit Sleeping Angels, a charity for babies born with birth defects.
