Sunday Science Program for Kids at Neal Smith NWR!

On Sunday, July 10, from 2- 3:30 p.m., children ages 6-10 are invited to bring their favorite adult and join a refuge naturalist to become a scientist for a day! The all new Sunday Scientist program will give students a chance to study science in nature, conduct experiments and search for wildlife up close. The topic for this month’s program will be “Winged Wonders.” We will also go on a hike to search for butterflies. The program is free and open to the public. Please preregister for this program to ensure that Neal Smith NWR has enough materials and personnel to provide the best learning experience for all participants.

Sunday Science programs are educational experiences that are especially designed for young learners. Programs focus on engaging children in the outdoors by using hands-on and interactive activities.

To register or if you have questions, please contact Brianna Patrick at 515-994-3400 or Connect with us on Facebook at for information regarding all upcoming events.

The next Sunday Scientist program will be held on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, as we explore the “Birds of Prey!” The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to providing access to this program for all participants. Please direct all requests for sign language interpreting services, close captioning or other accommodation needs to Brianna Patrick at or 515-944-3400, TTY 800-877-8339 with your request by close of business on July 8.
