Story Time Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.

Slide in for our sports and wellness Summer Reading Program! We continue our theme with a loud “Play Ball,” continue with some healthy hints about teeth and finish with some fun food treats. The last Story Time is on July 18, we will see you again after Labor Day. All reading logs must be turned in by Aug. 1.

Coffee Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-noon

Join us around the fireplace for a cup of coffee or iced tea!

Tween Time Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.

Jump into some crafts, activities and discussions for ages 8-12. The last session of the season will be July 20.

Sit N Stitch, Thursdays 6-8 p.m.

Bring your current project and join the stitching!

Men’s Friday Coffee, 10 p.m.-noon

Gentlemen, drop in for some coffee and conversation. Enjoy spending time and having a few laughs or interesting discussions with other men from around the area.

Teen Latin Dance Program, Monday, July 11, 3:30 p.m.

Dance instructor Amanda Peterson will demonstrate and teach several dances from Latin America.

Friends of the Library Meeting, Wednesday, July 13 6:30 p.m.

The Friends of the Polk City Community Library have four scheduled meetings per year. All meetings are open to members and the public. Anyone interested in supporting the library is welcome and encouraged to attend!

Science Center of Iowa, Thursday, July 14, 10:30 a.m.

How does science explain how we move and how the body works? Come and learn with us about Fantastic Forces.

Finding Time To Exercise….how to “get it in” and what really matters! Thursday, July 14, 6:30 p.m.

Do you find yourself having difficulty finding time to get exercise into your daily life? Can 10 minutes of exercise really make a difference? Come and learn! Stephanie Kelsick, Rock Valley Physical Therapy can help you with ideas on hitting those important “target” areas and how to incorporate them into your busy life!

Friends of the Library “Toss It To Win It,” Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16

Friends very successful ring toss (held on the Town Square) need two-liter pop donations or monetary donations! Please make your donations at the Polk City Community Library. All proceeds from the ring toss are used to enhance the Polk City Community Library facilities and their programs, plus matching donations to the Library’s Electronic Sign fund.

Teen Un-Olympics, Monday, July 18, 1:30 p.m.

Are you medal-worthy? Do you have it in you to compete in the Un-Olympics. Join us, in your old clothes, for some wacky games!

Monday Book Club, July 18, 7 p.m.

“The Magician’s Lie” by Greer Macallister. Will a magician ever reveal her secrets…even when her life’s at stake?

Hanson Family, Thursday, July 21, 12:30 p.m.

You must see this incredible family ride unicycles, juggle and ride six-foot unicycles! This will be held in the parking lot of the library, so please plan to park in the lot of the Methodist Church or walk. There will be food, fun, and prizes!

Calm Down and GET YOUR ZENTANGLE ON, Thursday, July 21 6 p.m.

Some may call it just doodling, but Zentangle is a self-help art therapy practice to enhance relaxation and focus. It teaches us not to rush and to take good care of ourselves in the present moment. It’s simple, it’s soothing and creative! In this workshop, you will learn the basics of the Zentangle Method and learn some ideas of how you might apply your new skill. Come comfortable and ready to relax! Materials provided and all levels welcomed. Instruction by Hanna Piepel, a graphic designer, artist and mother from Polk City. Saturday, July 30, 10, a.m.-3 p.m.

Friends of the Library book sale will include books, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. Bake sale includes cookies, bars, cakes, scones, bread and candy. Saturday is BAG DAY! Pay $5 to fill a plastic bag or purchase a Friends shopping bag for $7 and everything you can get into it is yours!
