This is the third year in a row Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa has been selected as a host site for Bike & Build. This is a great honor and we are looking forward to the event.

Bike & Build operates eight cross-country routes each summer. Approximately 32 riders team up on each of these routes to pedal from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, along the way stopping in hundreds of communities to build with local housing affiliates like Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa and to advocate for the need for increased availability of affordable housing for low-income Americans.

Our riders are with the Providence to Seattle route. The riders on this trip hail from all over the United States. Last year, they raised over $140,000 to donate to various housing nonprofits. Bike & Build riders both raise funds to support these organizations and make the competitive funding decisions.

This year, we will again be meeting in Brookside Park (Maple Shelter). We invite you to join us at 6:30 on Friday, July 8, for a concert with Denise Shipler. Denise has performed at the Iowa State Fair for years, as well as many other venues, including Rock the Roof at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park. Denise also appears annually on the Variety Telethon. The concert is sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa and is free and open to the public. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. and will go until 8 p.m.

Please tell your family and friends to come and listen to Denise and a very inspiring concert, as well as visiting with bikers from all over the United States.

Hope to see you on July 8 for a fun evening.
