‘Little Dresses for Africa’ Volunteer Weekend

The Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union is hosting a work weekend for the nonprofit organization “Little Dresses for Africa,” July 9 and 10 from 1-4 p.m. Volunteers can help make dresses from pillowcases, providing relief and hope for children in Africa. From cutting fabric and ironing to sewing, there is a place for anyone who has an hour or two to spare. Those with basic sewing skills are especially appreciated to help lead the volunteers. The Workspace will have all supplies available. To date, The Workspace has sent over 520 dresses to children in need. There is no charge to participate and no preregistration is necessary. Find the Workspace at 2229 Lincoln Way on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information, call 515-294-0970 or visit www.workspace.mu.iastate.edu.

Harry Potter Cross Stitch Workshop

Wizards, professors and the trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione will be pixilated into patterns that you will learn to read and follow at this session taught by Amy Bannister. Choose your favorite group of Hogwarts heroes/villains and get the hang of working with a needle and thread for stitching. Leave with all the supplies and patterns (and the know-how) to finish on your own. This session will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, July 11 at The Workspace on the ISU Campus. Cost is $26 for those with ISU; $36 for the public.
