Don’t miss the annual Slater 4th of July celebration, going on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with all kinds of events. One of the most anticipated activities is the 4th of July Parade, taking place Monday at 10 a.m. This year’s fireworks are on Sunday evening at 10 p.m.

Car show tonight

Sandy’s Grill, 504 E. First St. in Huxley, is hosting a car show tonight from 5-9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Glass Bead Jewelry Class: Basics

Get the basics of glass beadmaking in this fun, short course taught by Rhonda Scott at the Workspace in Ames. Learn to safely use a torch and simple tools to shape the colorful glass and then turn your own handmade beads into jewelry. Take home earrings and a pendant. Those who have already taken a glass bead class are welcome to join in and learn some new shaping techniques. The class will be held Wednesdays, beginning July 6, from 6-9 p.m. for two weeks. Cost is $40 for those with ISU; $50 for the public. It is for ages 16 and up. Register at midwestix.com.
