Brianna Vermeer has earned a spot on Northwestern College’s academic dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester. The list is comprised of students who have achieved a semester GPA of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours.
Vermeer, the daughter of Marty and Jennifer Vermeer of Maxwell, is a junior exercise science major.
Central College celebrated commencement May 14. The following local students were among the graduates: Robert Askren, Polk City, magna cum laude; Kevin Jack, Huxley, magna cum laude; Emily Larkin, Cambridge, cum laude and Anna Pierce, Polk City, summa cum laude.
Megan Smith of Kelley and Jordan Stewart of Slater were named to the Upper Iowa University dean’s list for the 2016 spring semester. To be honored, a student must have earned a minimum 3.50 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student.
Caroline Buelt and Bailey Youngblade, both of Polk City, have been named to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln deans’ list for the spring semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Buelt is a sophomore in the College of Business Administration and Youngblade is a juniorin the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Elizabeth Burgus, daughter of Greg and Louann Burgus of Elkhart and Nathan Carlin, son of Pam Carlin and Dave Carlin of Huxley were named to the president’s list at Simpson College for the spring semester. To be named to this list, a student must have a GPA of 4.0.
Maria Claussen, daughter of Michelle Claussen and John Claussen of Ankeny; Tanner Canova of Madrid and Natasha Shehade, daughter of Ann Catus and Don Catus of Slater were named to the dean’s list at Simpson College for the spring semester. To be so named, a student must have a GPA of 3.70 – 3.99.
Adam Eddy and Kevin Jack, both of Huxley, presented their work in Central College’s Undergraduate Research Symposium. Eddy participated in the Exercise Physiology Lab symposium session with the presentation “Comparison of YMCA Bench Press Testing in Anaerobic versus Aerobic Athletes” and Jack participated in the Independent Research in Chemistry symposium session with the presentation “The Total Synthesis of Chromophenazine A,” his senior honors thesis.
The following area students have been named to the dean’s list at the University of Northern Iowa for the spring 2016 semester.To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while taking at least 12 hours of graded work during the semester.

The College of Saint Rose in New York announced that Emma Link of Cambridge is one of 143 students honored for outstanding academic achievement. Link received the Outstanding Senior in Marketing Award; outstanding Senior Award recipients have at least a 3.50 grade-point average and meet other criteria specified by the departments in which they study.
