Butterfly Field Day

A Butterfly Field Day will be held at McFarland Park on Saturday, June 11, from 2-4 p.m. Hike McFarland Park and hunt for butterflies with Reiman Garden’s staff during this Iowa Butterfly Survey Network practice session. All are welcome. After the survey, check out an insect or pond net from the Story County Conservation staff, and explore additional options for being a volunteer scientist in our parks. Also check out the craft table. Be prepared to hike up to a mile. The event will be cancelled if it rains. Registration is not required.

Old Town Neighborhood House Tour

The Historic Old Town Neighborhood of Ames will again this year be having their Home and Garden Tour on Sunday, June 12. Ever been curious about what the insides of some of those old Victorian homes looked like? Here’s your chance. This year’s Home & Garden Tour will feature 10 historic homes and gardens in the neighborhood. The tour takes place from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $10 each; kids 12 and under are free. Before the Tour, tickets are available for purchase at the Ames Historical Society, Gallery 319, and Gilger Designs. During the Tour, tickets are available for purchase at Unity Church on Ninth and Kellogg.

Gentle Yoga for Gardeners

So you’ve been busy in the garden after a long winter of underused muscles. Time for a tune up? On Tuesday, June 14, from 7-8:30 p.m., Jan Mitchell from Yoga Center of Boone will lead this class at the Arboretum for gardeners of every stripe and condition. The movements will be gentle, restorative and easily replicated at home. This class is designed for grownups, but grades four and above may also attend with an adult. We will have some yoga mats to share; if you have your own, please bring it. Fee: $10 members, $15 non-members.
