Sons of Norway event

Sons of Norway Kong Sverre Lodge held its May Event in Story City with the theme “Patriotic May.” The members and guests celebrated “Syttende Mai,” which is the National Day of Norway and is observed on May 17 each year as an official national holiday called Norwegian Constitution Day. After their catered dinner, they enjoyed a buffet table of Norwegian pastries. Zach Twedt gave the program on the Story County Freedom Flights. The Story County Freedom Flights honored Story County veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam for all of their sacrifices. Zach Twedt was a guardian on the Freedom Flights, where he assisted the veterans on the trips. He shared a PowerPoint presentation of photos taken of the veterans during the trips to the various war memorials in Washington, D.C. He spoke of the veterans and their experiences during the flights and at the memorials. He also spoke of his mother, Renee Twedt, who helped to start the Story County Freedom Flight in 2012 by holding fundraisers and organizing the Freedom Flights. Sons of Norway events are open to all interested in learning more about Scandinavian heritage and culture and guests are always welcome.
