7/1: Officer took a theft report at the 100 block of West First. A window air conditioner, valued at $250, was missing from a storage area in an apartment. The unit was recovered and returned to the original owner, who declined charges.

7/8: Officer responded to a suspicious vehicle at Blue Sky Blvd. Contact was made with a Milwaukee, Wis., man, who was arrested for Trespass and Operation of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent. The vehicle was reported stolen in Michigan earlier. Charges for the stolen vehicle will be generated after contact with the victim has been made.

7/14: Officer responded to a juvenile matter at the 100 block of National Drive. A juvenile had run away from home after being confronted for a theft. He was returned to his family. The victim declined charges.

7/16: Officer responded to the 103 Mile Marker of Interstate 35 northbound for a hit-and-run accident. A vehicle operated by a Boone man had been sideswiped by a semi, which continued and exited onto Highway 210. The semi was eventually caught just north of Granger. Several witnesses came forth to complain about the semi’s erratic driving. Since the incident took place over several counties, I-DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement took over the investigation. Officer responded to a theft call at a business on E. First Street. A man had used a check from a closed account to purchase $181.89 worth of goods. A positive ID was made on a 24-year-old West Des Moines man. Charges pending.

7/19: Officer took a report of an assault that took place in a vehicle during the prior night. The vehicle was en route from Des Moines to Huxley when the assault took place. An initial report has been made and the exact location of where the assault took place will determine if Huxley Police or Polk County Sheriff’s Office will take over.

7/24: Officer responded to a vehicle fire at the 900 block of Highway 69. A 2001 motor home was on fire, causing an unknown amount of damage. No injuries.

7/25: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 210 near 570th. The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old Ames man, was arrested for OWI 3rd and transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada.

7/27: Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident at the 100 block of National Drive. A parked vehicle owned by a Huxley woman was struck by a vehicle operated by a 16-year-old Huxley boy, causing approximately $1,100 in damage. No injuries.

7/31: Officer took a theft report at the 100 block of National Drive. Clothing and towels were taken from a dryer in a community area of the complex. No suspects.

Huxley officers had four arrests for the month, one was for OWI, one for Operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, one was for trespass, and one for theft. Officers issued 21 citations and gave 58 warnings. Huxley officers received 182 calls for service or information and had a total of 422 contacts for the month. Officers gave 277 hours toward investigations, answering calls or providing service and gave 437 hours of general patrol.
