Country pop artist Jamie Lynn Spears will perform at Iowa State University on Thursday, Aug. 28. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

At 23, Jamie Lynn Spears is already a seasoned entertainment veteran. Between her sister Britney’s success as a pop star, and her own breakout role on the hit Nickelodeon show “Zoey 101,” the Louisiana native is no stranger to the stage and is now back in the spotlight, after five years focused on raising her daughter Maddie, with a sound and style that truly captures her Southern roots.

Spears made her official music debut with the critically acclaimed ballad “How Could I Want More,” released in November of 2013. The intensely personal lyrics, mixed with simple song production, portray Spears as wise beyond her years. The song was named a Taste of Country Critic’s Pick and led to Spears being featured on “E!,” NBC’s “TODAY,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “BuzzFeed,” MTV, CMT and more. More recently, Spears released her new 5-track EP, “The Journey,” this past May.

Country/rock singer/songwriter Brandon Lay will open the show. His debut album, Me & Dixie, was self-released in March of 2012, and he recently released his newest EP, “Reckless.”

Tickets are $12 ($5 with an ISU student ID) and will be on sale Friday, July 4 online via www.midwestix.com. A 3 percent processing fee is applied to all online and MidwesTIX outlet purchases. All tickets are additionally subject to a $2 MidwesTIX service fee.

The concert is sponsored by the Iowa State University Student Union Board (SUB), a student-run programming board that organizes cultural, recreational, educational, social and entertainment activities and events throughout the academic year.
