Council discusses square footage for Prairie Ridge homes
The maximum square footage for a single story home in Huxley’s Prairie Ridge development may be increased.
Huxley City Council members discussed the matter during their May 14 meeting. The current maximum size limit is 1,008-square feet, and the proposed increase would bring the maximum up to 1,200-square feet.
The reason for increase is because of two Habitat for Humanity homes that will be constructed within the development. The smallest Habitat house size is just over 1,008-square feet, said Huxley City Administrator John Haldeman. If the maximum square footage for the development is not changed, the Habitat homes would not meet the development’s requirements.
“Instead of putting in two covenant exceptions, we’ll just change the whole thing,” Haldeman said of the size requirements.
The plan is for the two Habitat homes to be built during this construction season. Haldeman said the organization is currently working on the floor plan designs for the homes, and will present those designs at a future council meeting.
