NEVADA – The North Polk golf teams both came in second to Nevada during a boys’ quadrangular and girls’ triangular coed meet April 4 at the Indian Creek Country Club in Nevada.
The Comet boys shot a 188 over nine holes to come in 13 strokes behind Nevada’s 175. West Marshall was third in the boys’ meet with a 195 and Saydel took fourth with a 201.
Chris Flynn was the top individual performer for North Polk as he shot a 42 to take medalist runner-up honors behind Nevada’s Zach Hansen, who shot a 39. Berke Osborne and Drake Van Roekel also shot under 50 for North Polk with respective rounds of 47 and 49.
Ben Smith was the final scored Comet, shooting right at 50. Grant Schiltz just missed the scoring cut for North Polk with a 51.
In girls’ competition North Polk shot a 227 as a team over nine holes. Nevada won with a 216 and West Marshall was not eligible for team scoring with only three golfers.
Megan Petersen carded a 49 to pace the Comet girls. Petersen joined Flynn in being named medalist runner-up on the day as her score only trailed the 48 shot by Nevada’s Christine Ausman.
Miranda Murphy and Mackenzie Smith each recorded a 58 for the Comets. Beth Wilson shot a 62 as the final scored Comet and Amy Lund also finished with a 62 for North Polk.
