HUXLEY – The Ballard girls’ tennis team split with Boone in a round robin meet with the Toreadors and North Polk May 8 in Huxley.
The Bombers took on Boone in two singles matches as well as two matches in doubles play. They swept singles play, but lost both doubles confrontations to finish even with the Toreadors on the day.
Ballard only had one match completed against North Polk before the meet was rained out.
In singles play against Boone, the Bombers’ Breanna Ripp won the No. 1 match in decisive fashion. Ripp defeated Boone’s Emma Rose by a 10-1 score.
The No. 2 singles match saw Ballard’s Emily Jurgensen use a furious rally to edge Boone’s Breanna Sterenberg in an 11-10 thriller. Jurgensen came back from a 9-2 deficit to even things up and then claim a 10-8 tiebreaker for the victory.
In doubles play Ballard lost a pair of highly-competitive matchups with Boone.
Alex Petersen and Rylee Cahill suffered an 11-10 loss to Boone’s Jenny Behn and Sierra Leeds in the No. 1 doubles match. Petersen and Cahill were handed a 10-3 loss in the tiebreaker.
Meredith Ossian and Olivia Astarita dropped a 10-8 decision to Boone’s Carlie Romig and Morganne Borsh in the No. 2 doubles match.
Ossian and Astarita won the only Bomber confrontation with North Polk, defeating the Comets’ team of Brianne Schultz and McClane Gill by an 8-4 score.
Boone swept North Polk, 4-0, in the Toreador-Comet meet.
